International Mission Trips

Each year we send teams to serve internationally, most often in the summer. Current destinations include Honduras and Costa Rica, with additional countries in development. Trip details are posted in late fall and early winter. Spots fill quickly, so be on the lookout for more information as trips are announced.

Serve with Youth, Children, and Preschool

Help the next generation follow Jesus with confidence. We offer classes on Sundays and Wednesdays for newborns through high school, and we provide training and a background check for all volunteers.

Education Pastor

Dr. Paul Spargo

Paul has an undergraduate degree in labor relations from Cornell University, an M.Div. from Luther Rice Seminary, and a Th.D. from Covington Theological Seminary. He has over 30 years of experience in full-time ministry, including 16 years as a senior pastor, and has served on the faculty of seminaries in Jordan, Togo, and the United States. Since joining First Baptist Opelika in 2018 as Education Pastor, he has led adult Sunday School, small group Bible studies, and discipleship and mentoring ministries. Paul is passionate about influencing the lives of others for the glory of God.

Hailing from upstate New York, Paul’s life outside of ministry centers on discipling his family. He and his wife, Cathy, have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren, with whom he treasures spending time and nurturing faith.
