The Mission of First Kids
Our desire is for kids to see and know Jesus.
We help children know Him personally, grow in their faith through worship and God’s Word, and go share His love with others. We exist to partner with parents in raising up spiritual champions—kids who are confident in their faith and ready to make a difference in the world.
Common Kids Ministry Questions
Can my child stay for multiple Sunday services?
Yes! Many kids stay for both Kids Church and Sunday School. Our team will help guide them between activities.
Can I stay in Kids Church with my child?
For safety, only screened and approved volunteers may serve in Kids Ministry. Parents are welcome to visit or serve after completing a background check.
Are volunteers background checked?
Yes. Every adult serving in Kids Ministry has completed an application, background check, and training process.
Do you serve snacks?
We don’t serve snacks during Kids services to avoid any issues with allergies.
Do you have a Special Needs Ministry?
Yes. We offer a K–5 special needs ministry designed to help every child experience Jesus’ love. Families can complete our Special Needs Information Form to help us prepare for your child’s visit.
Do you have a Latino Kids Ministry?
Yes, we offer ministries for all ages through Primera Iglesia Bautista Opelika (PIBO). For more information, visit our PIBO page.
First Kids Team

Wes leads the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, where he finds his greatest joy in seeing kids baptized and come to faith in Jesus. He studied Family and Discipleship Ministries at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and brings 15 years of experience serving children and families in churches across Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee before joining FBCO.
Wes and his family have roots in Louisville, KY, and southern Indiana—affectionately known as “Kentuckiana.” The Flemings enjoy Atlanta Braves baseball, cooking and grilling, movies, trips to the beach, outdoor adventures, and playing board and card games together.

Dawson serves in the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, where he loves worshiping with kids and watching them grow in their love for Christ. He studied at Auburn University and previously served as a resident for FBCO’s college ministry before joining the kids ministry team.
Originally from Andalusia, Dawson enjoys Braves baseball, Auburn sports, playing trumpet in the Auburn University Marching Band, and coaching youth soccer.

Ana directs the children’s ministry for Primera Iglesia Bautista de Opelika (PIBO), where she delights in watching kids grow both physically and spiritually. She studied Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and previously worked as a Spanish teacher for young children at Big Blue Marble Academy before joining the FBCO staff.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, Ana Cecilia enjoys hiking, exploring new coffee shops, playing pickleball, and baking. She loves investing in children’s lives and seeing their hearts and faith develop as they learn more about God’s Word.

Tatum supports the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, loving the behind-the-scenes work that helps the ministry run smoothly. She studied at Troy University and previously worked for eight years at BigHouse Foundation, a local nonprofit serving foster and adoptive families.
A lifelong Opelika resident, you can find Tatum spending time with her husband and two children, as well as hunting for treasures at thrift and antique stores.

Ana González is the Kids Associate here at FBC Opelika.
