Paxton Brittle

Paxton Brittle is the College Pastor here at FBC Opelika.

Student Pastor

Paul Dunbar

Paul serves as Student Pastor at FBCO. He graduated from Angelo State University in 2005 on a football scholarship, where he met his wife, Leslie. They have four daughters — Rorie, Ryanne, Rheaganne, and Rhettleigh — and enjoy their girls’ sports, Harley rides, and staying active. Paul has been in ministry for 14 years, with the last four at FBCO, and is completing a master’s in Pastoral Ministry at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care, Encore, and Assimilation

Cade Farris

A native of northwest Alabama, Cade grew up in a strong Christian home and followed Christ at age nine. He earned a music degree from the University of North Alabama and a Master of Divinity in Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Cade served in Baptist churches across Alabama, Indiana, and Georgia before coming to FBCO, first in 2004–2011, then returning in 2022. In his role, Cade enjoys the opportunity to shepherd, counsel, and encourage God’s people.

Cade and his wife, Jennifer, have been married since 1999 and have three children: Lauren, Carson, and Andrew. Outside of ministry, Cade enjoys spending time with his family, singing and playing acoustic guitar, exercising, playing Rook and pickleball, bargain hunting, watching Alabama Crimson Tide football and Atlanta Braves baseball, and all things Star Wars.

Kids Pastor

Wes Fleming

Wes leads the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, where he finds his greatest joy in seeing kids baptized and come to faith in Jesus. He studied Family and Discipleship Ministries at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and brings 15 years of experience serving children and families in churches across Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee before joining FBCO.

Wes and his family have roots in Louisville, KY, and southern Indiana—affectionately known as “Kentuckiana.” The Flemings enjoy Atlanta Braves baseball, cooking and grilling, movies, trips to the beach, outdoor adventures, and playing board and card games together.

Latino Pastor

Dr. Daniel González

Pastor Daniel joined the First Baptist family in August 2022 to start the Latino congregation (PIBO). He was born in Cuba where he served as Baptist pastor from 1993 until 2022. He finished his B.A. in Theology at Havana Baptist Theological Seminary in 1997. Simultaneously, Ana Isabel finished her B.A. at the University of Pedagogical Sciences of Havana, and they got married in June of the same year. A month later they traveled to the Isle of Pines to begin a church planting movement that resulted in hundreds of new believers joining a network of more than one hundred house groups and six official churches. After a decade they returned to Havana with their three children, leaving all the work in the hands of the indigenous leadership. 

In June 2008 Daniel completed his Master’s degree in Havana Baptist Theological Seminary in partnership with SWBTS. In 2009 he assumed the pastorate of the Santos Suárez Baptist Church, Havana, where he developed a growing urban church planting movement for twelve years. In May 2023 he completed his Doctorate of Ministry with an emphasis in Leadership from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Kansas, MO. His three children, Moisés, Ana, and Angelo, continue to be key pieces of his missionary team. His passion is establishing multiplying churches and mobilizing and developing local leaders.

Worship Pastor

Bruce Hill

Bruce Hill came to FBO in 2020 with over 40 years of music ministry experience. He has a degree from Samford University in Music Education and a Master’s in Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, both with a concentration in voice. In the academic setting, he has taught courses such as Choral and Instrumental Conducting, History of Church Music, History of Christian Music, Introduction to Worship Leadership, Music Theory 1 & 2, Philosophy of Worship, and Private Voice. He has authored a book for training music ministers titled Rebuilding the Temple of Praise.

Bruce has led worship in evangelistic crusades in Kenya, Nicaragua, and other locations, and has served many churches over his ministry tenure. He has primarily ministered in Tennessee and Alabama. Bruce is married to Teri, and they have two children (Brad, Alex; Kaley, Ross) and two grandchildren, Bennett & Kollyns.

Missions Pastor

Alan Jones

Meet Alan, our dedicated mission pastor who joined our staff in 2006 as the student pastor. Alongside his wife Lisa, he has served in various states, including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. In 2012, Alan took on the role of being our first mission pastor, bringing his enthusiasm to motivate and involve our church in global missions. With a knack for organizing logistics, he enjoys creating opportunities for our church family to share the message of Jesus worldwide. Alan’s motto, “You’ll never know until you go,” reflects his belief in the transformative power of experiencing and spreading the love of Christ.

Alan and Lisa have three grown children and two grandchildren — Lindy (5) and Lambert (3). This year marks Alan’s 19th year of faithful service at FBCO.

Korean Pastor

Dr. Lloyd Seok

Lloyd Seok is the Korean Pastor at First Baptist Church of Opelika. He and his family moved from South Korea in 2012. He previously served as senior associate pastor at Suwon Central Baptist Church, one of the leading megachurches in South Korea. Lloyd Seok began his ministry at First Baptist Church of Opelika in July 2019, when he formally launched the Korean Ministry with 50 Korean members. Over the past couple of years, it has grown to over 200 Korean members and is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Led by Lloyd Seok, FBCO Korean Ministry is a dynamic ministry aimed at evangelizing the Korean community in Auburn and Opelika. He is completing his dissertation in the Doctor of Ministry program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Lloyd Seok’s family includes his wife, Susan, and his daughters, Sally and Annie.

Education Pastor

Dr. Paul Spargo

Dr. Paul Spargo has an undergraduate degree in labor relations from Cornell University, an M.Div. from Luther Rice Seminary, and a Th.D. from Covington Theological Seminary. He is a faculty member at the Biblical Theological Seminary of Amman, Jordan, and the Sixth Degree Initiative Bible College in Togo, Africa, as well as a faculty mentor at Sioux Falls Seminary. After 25 years in full-time ministry, including 16 years in the senior pastorate, Dr. Spargo accepted the call as FBCO’s Education Pastor in 2018. His responsibilities include adult Sunday School, small group Bible studies, and FBCO’s discipleship and mentoring ministries. Dr. Spargo is married to Cathy, his childhood sweetheart since 7th grade. They have 2 sons, 2 daughters-in-law, and 5 grandchildren.

NextGen Pastor

Dr. Will Spivey

Will serves as First Baptist Opelika’s Next Generation Pastor. After completing his Master of Divinity, he and his wife, Shelby, moved to Opelika, where he had been College Pastor since 2019. He completed a PhD in Biblical Exposition with a minor in Missiology at New Orleans Seminary. Since 2019, the college ministry has sent hundreds of students on international trips and landed a residency to train future ministers and missionaries. In his current role, he aligns the vision across age-graded ministries from preschool through young adults, leads the residency, and preaches each Sunday. Will and Shelby have four children and serve as foster parents with the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home. In his free time, he enjoys running, smoking meats, and reading.

Church Administrator

Chris Wood

Chris oversees personnel, finances, facilities, and day-to-day church operations, calling it a privilege to serve in a church where God’s Word is central. He joined the FBCO staff in 2017 after spending 18 years in the Rockdale County public school system as an economics teacher and high school assistant principal. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and holds a Master’s and Specialist’s degree in Administration/Supervision from Georgia College and State University.

Chris is married to Melodie, and they have two children, Kenna and Jacob. He is an avid Railfan and sports enthusiast—and also works as an NFL statistician for the Atlanta Falcons.

Executive Assistant to the Church Administrator/Event Coordinator

Kristen Meadows

Kristen has served First Baptist Opelika since 2014, first as Wedding Coordinator and now also as Event Coordinator. With more than 15 years of experience in event planning, she loves serving people during some of the most meaningful moments in their lives. Kristen is a graduate and former board member of Leadership Lee County and holds a Bachelor’s degree from Troy University.

Kristen and her husband, Randell, have three children: Carter Mae, Adaline, and James. They have been members of FBCO since 2007 and enjoy traveling, spending time at their family’s farm in Brundidge, and cheering on Auburn and Troy football.

Executive Assistant to the Senior Pastor

Jennifer Johnson

Jennifer joined the staff at First Baptist Opelika in 2018, bringing extensive experience in healthcare management and higher education. Jennifer assists the leadership team and enjoys keeping the team organized and facilitating opportunities for ministry and service within the church family. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration with a minor in Business and a Master’s in Public Administration, both from Auburn University. Currently, she serves as an adjunct instructor in Auburn’s Health Administration program, teaching courses related to senior adult care and management. 

Jennifer and her husband, Clint, have been married since 2007 and have two children, Kelsie and Wesley. Their family enjoys weekend football, camping trips, and spending time together, along with their mini dachshund, Mollie.

Financial Administrator

Connie Jones

Connie ensures smooth financial operations as FBCO’s Financial Administrator, but her favorite part of her job is the people. She is a graduate of Auburn University and has spent her career in various accounting roles.

Originally from Dothan, Alabama, Connie enjoys reading, spending time at the beach, and cheering on Auburn basketball.

Database Manager

Laura Shareski

Laura is FBCO’s Database Manager, equipping staff with the tools and support they need to thrive in ministry. She also assists members of the congregation with their digital interactions, helping make church resources more accessible and user-friendly. Before joining FBCO, Laura worked in catering management.

Originally from Smiths Station, Alabama, Laura enjoys traveling and exploring new books in her free time.

Receptionist

Teri Hill

Teri loves getting to know and serve members of the FBCO family in her role as Receptionist. She studied at Sandhills Community College and has previous experience in customer service at a bank and as a phlebotomist.

Teri is from Gadsden and enjoys reading, hiking, baking, and experimenting with new recipes.

Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care, Encore, and Assimilation

Cade Farris

Pastor Cade H. Farris is a native of northwest Alabama. He was raised in a strong Christian home and became a follower of Jesus when he was nine years old. As a freshman at the University of North Alabama (UNA), Cade answered God’s call to vocational ministry. At that time in Baptist Campus Ministries, he also met and later married his college sweetheart Jennifer in 1999. They have three children: Lauren, Carson, and Andrew. Cade has a music degree from UNA and received his Master of Divinity in Theology from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. In college and seminary, Cade was a minister of music at Baptist churches in Alabama and Indiana. Cade joined the staff at FBCO for the first time from 2004-2011 as the minister to college and singles for two years and then as the minister to adults for five years. He left FBCO to serve as the lead pastor at First Baptist Church of Wedowee from 2011-2015. Before returning to the staff at FBCO in August of 2022, Cade was the senior pastor at First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange from 2015-2022. Cade enjoys spending time with his family, praying with and ministering to others, singing, preaching, playing the guitar, exercising, playing Rook, watching Alabama Crimson Tide football and Atlanta Braves baseball, and all things Star Wars.

Pastoral Care Associate

Kadin Christian

Kadin joined the staff at First Baptist Opelika after previously serving in the church’s student and college ministries. He holds a degree in Finance from Auburn University and a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before coming on staff full-time, Kadin worked with the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission in Nashville, serving in the Office of the President and supporting the team’s work at the intersection of faith, policy, and public life. He loves helping people move from simply attending to truly belonging—seeing the body of Christ come alive through connection and community.

Originally from Chelsea, Kadin enjoys cooking, hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with family and friends. His favorite mornings start with a good cup of coffee in a rocking chair and end around a table filled with people and stories.

Pastoral Care Assistant

Joanne Gordon

Joanne joined First Baptist Opelika in 2024 as the Assistant to Pastoral Care. She enjoys supporting those in need of pastoral care and finding ways to serve the church family through practical acts of kindness. Born and raised in Australia, Joanne graduated from the University of Melbourne. She and her husband, Terry, a retired U.S. Navy Chaplain, ministered to Sailors, Marines, and their families for over 30 years while raising three children. 

The Gordons settled in Opelika after turning 14 houses into homes around the world. In her free time, Joanne loves baking, reading Christian fiction and Australian novels, and hosting a Missional Community group in their home.

Education Pastor

Dr. Paul Spargo

He has over 30 years of experience in full-time ministry, including 16 years as a senior pastor, and has served on the faculty of seminaries in Jordan, Togo, and the United States. Since joining First Baptist Opelika in 2018 as Education Pastor, he has led adult Sunday School, small group Bible studies, and discipleship and mentoring ministries. Paul is passionate about influencing the lives of others for the glory of God.

Hailing from upstate New York, Paul’s life outside of ministry centers on discipling his family. He and his wife, Cathy, have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren, with whom he treasures spending time and nurturing faith.

Worship Pastor

Bruce is originally from Attalla and enjoys showing American Saddlebred horses, horseback riding, traveling, biking, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He and his wife, Teri, have two children and two grandchildren, who are central to his life outside of ministry.

Worship Ministry Assistant

Carrie Cunningham

Carrie loves using music to help make the name of Jesus known in the community. She studied at Jacksonville State University and previously taught PreK, 3rd grade, and music for over 11 years after being a stay-at-home mom.

Carrie is an Army Gold Star Spouse and enjoys spending time with her large, loving family, which includes four daughters, two stepsons, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren. She loves exploring new places and is happiest when surrounded by mountains.

Fine Arts Director

Kim Jackson

Kim retired after 25 years as a middle school band director in Eufaula, where she continues to teach special needs students in drum circles twice weekly. She holds a degree from Auburn University and now serves as the Fine Arts director, supporting the worship ministry and nurturing a love for music in students of all ages. As a third-generation member of First Baptist Opelika, she is excited to serve in her “home” church.

Kim loves to travel and is working on a bucket list to visit all 50 states. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends and sharing her passion for music with students and the church community.

Creative Arts/Latino Associate

Joel Hernandez

Joel joined First Baptist Church of Opelika in 2023 as part of the Latino ministry, Primera Iglesia Bautista de Opelika (PIBO). He serves alongside Dr. Daniel González to reach the growing Spanish-speaking community in Opelika and surrounding areas. Joel has been in ministry since giving his life to Christ in 1992 and was ordained in 2012. Joel is also the founder and leader of the worship band Blest, which includes his wife and daughters. Over 24 years in the Spanish CCM industry, they have earned multiple international awards and nominations, including Latin Grammy and Dove Award considerations, and Joel brings over 25 years of pastoral, worship, and creative ministry experience to FBCO.

Born in Cuba, Joel moved to the United States with his family in 1998, living 22 years in Miami before relocating to Atlanta in 2020. He and his wife, Ivette, have two daughters, Betsy and Melody. Joel enjoys coffee, photography, nature, and collecting vinyl records, and he loves mentoring the next generation in FBCO’s worship ministry.

NextGen Pastor

Jimbo Alldredge

As Next Generation Associate at First Baptist Opelika, Jimbo leads Young Adults and helps align preschool through young adult ministries around the Great Commission. Originally from Fayetteville, Georgia, he moved to Auburn in 2016 to attend Auburn University, earning a degree in Global Studies before completing his Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He joined the FBO staff in 2020 as part of the college ministry and stepped into his current role in 2023. Jimbo loves helping people discover their role in God’s mission and equipping them to walk in it.

Jimbo and his wife, Katherine, married in 2020 and enjoy spending time with friends, trying new restaurants, and discovering great coffee spots. He’s also a fan of barbecue and traveling—especially when it leads to new stories and conversations about what God is doing around the world.

Lindsey Wolfe

Lindsey serves as the Resident Coordinator in the NextGen Ministry at First Baptist Opelika, where she supports the day-to-day life and development of the ministry. She works closely with ministry leaders to foster connection and help create paths for people to get more rooted in the life of the church.

Lindsey is originally from Sweet Water and enjoys playing sports—especially volleyball—reading, going on walks, and traveling. She loves spending time with friends and finding ways to encourage and invest in the next generation.

Preschool Director

Pamela Brewer

Pamela leads the preschool ministry at First Baptist Opelika, finding joy in working with young children and their families. She earned her degree in Secondary Education from North Carolina State University and taught Chemistry and Physics in Christian schools for 13 years before moving to Opelika in 2020. She loves science, but her greatest joy is working with preschoolers, believing the early years are crucial in forming how children view learning and faith. Pamela and her husband, Jody, love spending time with their daughters, their son, and their son-in-laws.
Preschool Ministry Associate

Ashley Milford

As the Preschool Ministry Associate, Ashley loves working with families and children each day. She holds a degree in Social Work with a minor in Leadership Studies from Hardin-Simmons University. Her background includes roles such as Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army, case worker, adoption advocate, and preschool teacher—all experiences that have shaped her passion for nurturing children and supporting families.

Originally from Texas, Ashley enjoys crocheting, cooking, spending time outdoors, and cheering on her three daughters in whatever they’re involved in. She and her husband Mike find joy in opening her home to family and friends—especially when there’s good food and laughter around the table.

Dawson Kennedy

Dawson serves in the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, where he loves worshiping with kids and watching them grow in their love for Christ. He studied at Auburn University and previously served as a resident for FBCO’s college ministry before joining the kids ministry team.

Originally from Andalusia, Dawson enjoys Braves baseball, Auburn sports, playing trumpet in the Auburn University Marching Band, and coaching youth soccer.

Kids Ministry Associate

Ana González

Ana directs the children’s ministry for Primera Iglesia Bautista de Opelika (PIBO), where she delights in watching kids grow both physically and spiritually. She studied Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and previously worked as a Spanish teacher for young children at Big Blue Marble Academy before joining the FBCO staff.

Originally from Havana, Cuba, Ana Cecilia enjoys hiking, exploring new coffee shops, playing pickleball, and baking. She loves investing in children’s lives and seeing their hearts and faith develop as they learn more about God’s Word.

Kids Ministry Assistant

Tatum Black

Tatum supports the children’s ministry at First Baptist Opelika, loving the behind-the-scenes work that helps the ministry run smoothly. She studied at Troy University and previously worked for eight years at BigHouse Foundation, a local nonprofit serving foster and adoptive families.

A lifelong Opelika resident, you can find Tatum spending time with her husband and two children, as well as hunting for treasures at thrift and antique stores.

Student Pastor

Paul Dunbar

Paul serves as Student Pastor at First Baptist Opelika, where he loves seeing students follow Christ, grow in fellowship, and impact the world for God’s kingdom. A proud Texan and former teacher and coach, Paul earned his associate degree from Liberty University and a B.S. from Angelo State University, where he also played football. He is currently completing a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the FBCO staff, he served as Kids Pastor at Faith Baptist in Artesia, New Mexico.

Paul and his wife, Leslie, met in college and have four daughters—Rorie, Ryanne, Rheaganne, and Rhettleigh. Their family enjoys staying active, watching their girls play sports, and taking Harley rides together. When he has time to unwind, Paul loves hunting, spending days at the beach, and simply being with his family.

Student Ministry Associate

Sawyer Caine

Sawyer serves as a Student Ministry Associate at First Baptist Opelika, where he loves helping students connect the dots of living for Jesus in their everyday lives. Originally from Trussville, he attended Liberty University and previously served as a year-long resident intern with the FBCO student ministry.

In his free time, Sawyer enjoys hanging out with friends and playing golf and disc golf—a sport he competed in while at Liberty University.

Student Ministry Associate

Bree Chastang

As a Student Ministry Associate at First Baptist Opelika, Bree loves building relationships with students and watching them grow in their faith. She graduated from Mississippi College in 2022 with a degree in Chemistry and Medical Sciences. Prior to joining FBCO, Bree worked as a surgical aide at Thomas Hospital and taught high school math and chemistry at Central Christian School.

Originally from Fairhope, Bree enjoys coaching basketball and volleyball at Lee-Scott, playing sports like basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and softball, and cheering on Alabama football. She also enjoys walks, hanging out with friends, and following college basketball and softball.

Student Ministry Assistant

Jenny Sconyers

Jenny supports the student ministry team in sharing the gospel with students each week. She earned both a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies and an M.Ed. in Adult Education from Auburn University. Before joining FBCO, Jenny worked at Auburn University for nearly 10 years.

An Opelika native, Jenny has been involved in baton twirling for over 30 years and currently serves as the Majorette Instructor at Opelika High School. She enjoys mentoring students, sharing her passion for twirling, and being an active part of her community.

College Pastor

Paxton Brittle

Paxton leads the college ministry at First Baptist Opelika, helping students discover freedom, satisfaction, and purpose in Jesus alone. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Auburn University and a Master’s in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. With more than nine years in full-time ministry—two in student ministry, five as a worship pastor, and now in college ministry—Paxton loves guiding students as they grow in faith and community.

Originally from Birmingham, Paxton enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf, and supporting Auburn sports with unwavering enthusiasm. He also plays in a rock band with friends from his musical past and treasures spending time with family and friends.

College Ministry Associate

Grant Tincher

Grant works with college students at First Baptist Opelika, helping guide them from sin into truth and discipleship. He studied at Jefferson State Community College and trained at the Pine Cove Forge. Grant brings experience from serving as a college ministry intern in Tyler, Texas, and several summers at Pine Cove Ridge, alongside a background in the food service industry, including time at Chick-fil-A.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Birmingham, Grant enjoys coffee, photography, and most sports—especially Ohio State football and ultimate frisbee. He loves investing in students and cheering them on both in ministry and in life.

Katy White

As the College Women’s Ministry Associate, Katy enjoys connecting with students, helping organize mission teams, and organizing and leading Amplify, FBCO’s college spring break service trip. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies and joined the FBCO team in 2024.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Katy enjoys running, playing guitar, watching or playing sports, and recording podcasts. She loves building relationships and walking alongside college women as they grow in faith and community.

First Baptist Academy Headmaster

Matthew Kendrick

As Headmaster of First Baptist Academy, Matthew is passionate about shaping an environment where students glorify God through academics, encounter the truths of the gospel, and grow in both wisdom and character. With nearly 30 years in education, he has served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in both public and private schools across Alabama. He holds a B.S. in Social Science from Auburn University and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Troy University.

A longtime member of FBC Opelika, he and his wife were married at the church and have served in numerous ministries, from children’s Sunday School to the adult choir. He has been an ordained deacon since 2003 and remains actively involved in the church’s student and hospitality ministries. Originally from LaFayette, Alabama, Matthew enjoys spending time outdoors on his family farm, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Tamera Garner

Tamera loves working alongside incredible students and faculty in her role as Administrative Assistant for First Baptist Academy. A graduate of Mississippi College, Tamera recently retired from teaching in the Opelika City Schools system. Over the years, she’s taught everything from 2nd grade to middle school—including music—and continues to bring that same energy and care into her work at FBA.

Tamera is from New Orleans and enjoys spending time with her adult children, staying active through running and workouts, and playing the cello. She’s also an active part of the FBCO music ministry.

Missions Pastor

Alan Jones

Alan is our dedicated Mission Pastor who joined our staff in 2006 as the Student Pastor. Alongside his wife Lisa, he has served in various states, including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. In 2012, Alan took on the role of being our first Mission Pastor, bringing his enthusiasm to motivate and involve our church in global missions. With a knack for organizing logistics, he enjoys creating opportunities for our church family to share the message of Jesus worldwide. Alan’s motto, “You’ll never know until you go,” reflects his belief in the transformative power of experiencing and spreading the love of Christ.

Alan and Lisa have three grown children and two grandchildren: Lindy and Lambert.

Missions/Encore Assistant

Victoria Carboni

Through her role in missions, Victoria helps connect people to the Great Commission both globally and locally. She also supports the Encore Ministry, walking alongside some of the most faithful members of the church family. Victoria holds a B.A. in Public Relations with a minor in Philanthropy, as well as a Master’s in Adult Education, all from Auburn University. She began serving in both ministries in 2022.

Victoria and her husband, Trent, live in a 100-year-old home in Notasulga with their two dogs, Kane and Phoebe, and their cat, Paul Anka. She enjoys cheering on Auburn sports, spending time at the beach, hosting friends and family, thrifting, decorating, and creating a warm, inviting home.

Latino Pastor

Dr. Daniel González

Dr. González joined First Baptist Church of Opelika in August 2022 to launch the Latino congregation (Primera Iglesia Bautista de Opelika, or PIBO). Born in Cuba, he has dedicated his life to church planting and leadership development, founding Iglesia Bautista de Guanabo and leading a decade-long church planting movement on the Isle of Youth that grew to over 100 house churches. He later pastored Santos Suárez Baptist Church in Havana, developing a thriving urban church-planting network. Daniel earned a B.A. in Theology from Havana Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master’s degree in partnership with SWBTS, and a Doctorate of Ministry with an emphasis in Leadership from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Daniel is married to Ana Isabel, and they have three children: Moisés, Ana, and Angelo, who continue to serve alongside him in ministry. Outside of pastoral work, he enjoys canine sports, especially canicross.

Creative Arts/Latino Associate

Joel Hernandez

Joel joined First Baptist Church of Opelika in 2023 as part of the Latino ministry, Primera Iglesia Bautista de Opelika (PIBO). He serves alongside Dr. Daniel González to reach the growing Spanish-speaking community in Opelika and surrounding areas. Joel has been in ministry since giving his life to Christ in 1992 and was ordained in 2012. Joel is also the founder and leader of the worship band Blest, which includes his wife and daughters. Over 24 years in the Spanish CCM industry, they have earned multiple international awards and nominations, including Latin Grammy and Dove Award considerations, and Joel brings over 25 years of pastoral, worship, and creative ministry experience to FBCO.

Born in Cuba, Joel moved to the United States with his family in 1998, living 22 years in Miami before relocating to Atlanta in 2020. He and his wife, Ivette, have two daughters, Betsy and Melody. Joel enjoys coffee, photography, nature, and collecting vinyl records, and he loves mentoring the next generation in FBCO’s worship ministry.

Korean Pastor

Dr. Lloyd Seok

Dr. Seok has led the Korean Ministry at FBCO since July 2019. He previously served as senior associate pastor at Suwon Central Baptist Church in South Korea, one of the nation’s leading megachurches, where he oversaw youth, adult ministries, and more than 260 church committees. Lloyd earned his Bachelor of Theology and Master of Divinity degrees from Korea Baptist Theological University and completed his Doctor of Ministry at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Under his leadership, the Korean Ministry has grown from 50 members to over 200, with a mission to share the gospel with the 6,000 Koreans living in the Auburn–Opelika area.

Lloyd and his family moved from South Korea to the United States in 2012. He and his wife, Susan, have two daughters, Sally and Annie. He enjoys listening to people’s stories, offering counsel, traveling, reading, listening to music, and kayaking. He treasures walking alongside others as they grow in faith and experience God’s grace.

James Kim

As the Korean Associate at First Baptist Church of Opelika, James focuses on youth and young adult ministry as well as worship and praise. He studied theology at Korea Baptist Theological University and earned both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology in Biblical Spirituality from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is currently completing his Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before coming to FBCO, James served nine years as an associate pastor at Samho Baptist Church in Seoul, South Korea, gaining experience in pastoral leadership, evangelism, and overseas missions.

James moved to the United States from South Korea in December 2021. He and his wife, Jamie, are raising three children—Hannah, Timothy, and Rinnah—and treasure spending time together as a family. He enjoys investing in his children’s growth, cultivating faith at home, and serving the church he loves.

Larry McConnell

Larry brings over 40 years of maintenance and technical experience to his role as Facilities Director. He attended Southern Union Community College and Montgomery Area Skill Center, studying Machine Shop Technology, Industrial Electricity, and PLC Ladder Logic programming. Larry has previously worked in tire manufacturing and a motor company.

Born and raised in Opelika, Larry enjoys golf, bass fishing, and keeping up with high school and college football. He also has a passion for fast cars and takes pride in using his skills to keep the church building running smoothly and looking its best.

Stuart works in Maintenance at First Baptist Church of Opelika, where he enjoys the challenges of problem-solving and keeping the church’s facilities running smoothly. He studied at Columbus Technical College and has experience working with industrial heating and cooling power systems.

Stuart is originally from Anderson, South Carolina, and loves spending time with his grandkids and observing wildlife. When he’s not on the job, you’ll find him outdoors and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Matt Tabor

A native of Auburn, Matt has been part of FBCO since childhood and now serves as Production Director. He studied Management of Information Systems at Auburn University and continued his education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Matt previously served on FBCO’s media team before working at a telecoms supplier supporting major clients like college football programs and national broadcast networks. He returned to FBCO in 2019, where he enjoys problem-solving and using technology to support the church’s ministry and mission.

Matt and his wife, Lisa, who serves on the contemporary worship team, have three children: Emma, Seth, and Oliver. When he’s not in the broadcast room or troubleshooting equipment, he enjoys spending time with friends, playing board games, and beta-testing new tech products from major companies.

Production Coordinator

David Youngstrom

With decades of experience in production, David supports the teaching and worship ministries of the church through video, graphics, and other behind-the-scenes work. He studied at Auburn University and Troy State University and has worked in production since 1992 across television, news, studio work, church ministry, and business ownership before joining FBCO in 2021.

David grew up in Dothan, Alabama, and is passionate about Auburn sports, golf, hunting, shooting, and military aircraft. He and his family love spending time together and traveling—especially anywhere a 747 can take them.

Social Media/Website Associate

Meagan Mowery

Meagan studied Communications at the University of Alabama and began her career as a broadcast reporter, later transitioning to social media management and video production for a law firm. Today, she uses her skills as the church’s Communications Director to help the church family stay connected through storytelling, social media, and digital communication—a role that is especially meaningful since she’s been part of FBCO since childhood.

Outside of work, Meagan enjoys pickleball, running, and hosting gatherings with friends. She also loves fashion, travel, and sports, and is currently training for her first half-marathon, with a full one already in her sights.

Zac Blackerby

As a Production Associate at FBCO, Zac loves partnering with the media team and pastors to help communicate the gospel clearly and creatively to the church and broader community. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies from Auburn University and brings experience in podcasting, digital content, and local radio management.

A lifelong Opelika native, Zac enjoys collecting sports memorabilia, trading cards, and other collectibles. On many Saturdays, you’ll find him at card and trade shows, always on the hunt for a unique find.

Andrew Whitten

Andrew serves as the audio engineer during traditional worship at FBCO. Before joining the team, he worked at CoachComm, a company best known for its sideline communication systems used by football coaches nationwide. Andrew is passionate about creating an environment where people can worship freely and hear God’s Word clearly.

Andrew is originally from Warner Robins, Georgia. He enjoys cheering on Florida football and the Atlanta Braves and spending quality time with his family.

Jeffrey Wills

Jeffrey enjoys using his gifts to serve and support the ministry as a Media Associate at FBCO. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Auburn University and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Before joining the team full-time, Jeffrey completed the FBCO College Residency program.

Jeffrey enjoys watching and talking about sports, spending time with his wife and their cat, and diving into the world of Christian apologetics. He is from Pell City, Alabama.

Todd Makris

As the Technical Director at First Baptist Church of Opelika, Todd loves using creativity and technology to help facilitate worship and bring ministry to life across FBCO’s services. He sees every project as a chance to be creative, try something new, and see ministry come to life in a fresh way. Todd studied at the University of Virginia and previously worked as a Senior System Engineer for a technology firm.

When he’s not behind a camera or editing video, Todd enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittany, and their daughter, Isla—often adventuring back to Virginia and Tennessee to visit family.

Johnny Hansell

As FBCO’s IT Specialist, Johnny loves solving both complex and straightforward problems while creating solutions that make ministry efficient and productive. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Public Health, specializing in Health Policy and Administration, from The University of Southern Mississippi. His background includes experience in technical support, A/V leadership, and public health program management.

Johnny is originally from Arcola, Mississippi, a small, close-knit town in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. In his free time, he enjoys drag racing, working on nostalgic vehicles, cooking dishes inspired by his Mississippi roots, hunting and fishing, and designing home theaters. He also loves traveling and cherishes time spent with his family.
