Common Preschool Ministry Questions
How do I check in?
Come to the Welcome Desk in the lobby of the Children’s Building and one of our team members would love to help you check in. They will get some essential information from you and show you where your child’s class is.
When I visit, where do I go?
All of our preschool and children’s activities are in the Children’s Building. You can enter through the large two-story entrance on Avenue B across from the Courthouse Square and the fountain.
Can my child stay for multiple Sunday services?
Yes! Many kids stay for multiple services. Our team will help guide them between activities.
Can I stay in the preschool classroom with my child?
For safety, only screened and approved volunteers may stay in the classroom.
Are volunteers background checked?
Yes. Every adult serving in preschool ministry has completed a background check.
If my child is scared or nervous, can he/she come to adult services with me?
Of course! If your child feels more comfortable with you, they’re welcome to stay in adult services. However, we’d encourage you to visit one of our Preschool classes because children love our Bible stories, music, crafts, and amazing teachers.
Preschool Ministry Team

Pamela leads the preschool ministry at First Baptist Opelika, finding joy in working with young children and their families. She earned her degree in Secondary Education from North Carolina State University and taught Chemistry and Physics in Christian schools for 13 years before moving to Opelika in 2020. She loves science, but her greatest joy is working with preschoolers, believing the early years are crucial in forming how children view learning and faith. Pamela and her husband, Jody, love spending time with their daughters, their son, and their son-in-laws.

As the Preschool Ministry Associate, Ashley loves working with families and children each day. She holds a degree in Social Work with a minor in Leadership Studies from Hardin-Simmons University. Her background includes roles such as Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army, case worker, adoption advocate, and preschool teacher—all experiences that have shaped her passion for nurturing children and supporting families.
Originally from Texas, Ashley enjoys crocheting, cooking, spending time outdoors, and cheering on her three daughters in whatever they’re involved in. She and her husband Mike find joy in opening her home to family and friends—especially when there’s good food and laughter around the table.

Bright Beginnings Weekday Preschool
Christ-centered Preschool • Ages 14 months to PreK
August–May • 8:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
At Bright Beginnings, we are focused on nurturing growth in every area—spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and mental—through hands-on learning experiences rooted in God’s love.
Toddler classes meet three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Two-year-old, three-year-old, and PreK classes have an option of a three-day or a five-day program. Class placement is determined by age as of September 2 of the school year. Toddlers must be walking before school begins, and children three and older must be potty trained.
Registration for the 2026-2027 school year will open:
- Tuesday, January 20: Open to current families, FBCO church members, and First Baptist Academy families
- Tuesday, February 3: Open to the general public
A non-refundable registration fee of $150 is due at the time of registration in order to secure a place in one of our classes.
